How it works.

From PDF to spreadsheet, in three steps.

  1. Drop in a PDF bank statement

Any bank, up to 10 pages, digital or scanned. Locked PDFs are fine too: you'll be asked for the password. No signup.

  2. Every row is read and checked

Each transaction is added to the balance before it and has to land on the balance the statement prints. If one doesn't, you'll see exactly which row.

  3. Download Excel or CSV

Four clean columns: Date, Description, Amount and Balance, with money out negative and money in positive. Ready for a spreadsheet or your accounting software.

Is it safe?

  • Your PDF is deleted as soon as it's converted.
  • The rows are kept for an hour so you can download them, then deleted.
  • No cookies, no tracking, no ads.

Questions, answered.

Converting HSBC statements, for free.

  1. How do I get my HSBC statement as a PDF?

Log on to HSBC online banking, open the account and go to its statements. Each one downloads as a PDF, and that's the file to drop here.

  2. What happens to HSBC's money-out and money-in columns?

They become one Amount column: money out negative, money in positive. Each sign is then confirmed against the running balance, so a payment can never quietly turn into a deposit.

  3. HSBC only shows a balance at the end of each day. Is that a problem?

No. Those end-of-day balances are what each day's transactions are checked against, so every day still has to add up.

  4. Will long descriptions break across rows?

No. HSBC wraps long descriptions onto a second line; they're joined back onto their own transaction instead of turning up as extra rows.

  5. Is it really free?

Yes. No signup and no card: one statement a day, up to 10 pages. After your first, answer one quick question and you get two more that day.

  6. What does balance-checked mean?

Every statement prints a running balance. Each transaction is added to the balance before it and has to land on the balance printed beside it. If a row doesn't add up, you see which one before you download.

  7. Is my statement safe?

Your PDF goes straight to NoRekey, which converts it and deletes it the moment it's done. The rows are kept for an hour so you can download them, then deleted too. No cookies, no tracking, no ads.

  8. What if my PDF has a password?

You'll be asked for it. It's used once to open the file and never stored.

Private by design.

What happens to your statement, in short.

  • Your PDF goes straight to NoRekey, which converts it and deletes it the moment it's done. BooksByLunch never keeps a copy.
  • The rows are kept for an hour so you can download your spreadsheet, then deleted.
  • Passwords for locked PDFs are used once to open the file and never stored.
  • No cookies, no tracking, no ads. Not even analytics.
  • Your IP address is only held scrambled, in memory, to count free statements, and forgotten after 24 hours.
